While modeling, you start to spot all these redundant practices that are hurting content creation. How items are modeled and textured again and again but could be simplified with modular base pieces that serve as the template to work from. I have worked as a software engineer for 8 years and do not like to recreate something that can be made into a reusable item, welded into other pieces.
You have your prefabs in Unity and in Maya.
The prefabs in Maya are core building blocks for modeling unique pieces but the ones in Unity the ones that are assembled into unique game items.
